Coordinator for Special Education
Sarah is our Special Education Department Coordinator. She taught special education in the United States for 6 years, and has her degree in elementary education with a focus on literacy and special education, from the University of Northern Iowa. In her previous teaching positions, she sought to develop positive relationships and establish a classroom community where students felt valued, safe to take risks, and could take ownership of their learning. She also participated in leadership teams, facilitated teacher development, and led student support teams to design, implement, and monitor goals. She is a 4th generation teacher. Her parents and younger sister teach orchestra, and they all enjoy making music together as a family quartet! Sarah grew up on the Mississippi River and enjoys exploring the outdoors with hiking, kayaking, biking, and skiing.
Experiences with CGIA
It is such a joy to be part of the CGIA community! I started doing some teaching with CGIA online a couple years ago, and am so thankful to join everyone in person this year. I love the vision of CGIA and the strong community developed by teachers, families, and students. I have been so impressed by the staff here. Our teachers work hard to build an inclusive environment and facilitate hands-on learning experiences for all students. Our special education staff are always ready to implement new ideas, dedicated to collaborating with teachers and families, and committed to our students. We have been working hard this year to support student growth in all areas, adding goals and teaching plans not just for academics, but also for communication, behavior, and social skills. It has been so wonderful to celebrate student growth together in these areas!
