While children enjoy their holidays, our teachers engage in purposeful trainings designed not simply to strengthen teaching practices but to ensure that every child who walks into CGIA experiences a culture of care, belonging, and meaningful learning. At the heart of this process is a belief in the power of a growth mindset; the understanding that learning is a lifelong journey and that growth happens when we remain open to new ideas, challenges, and possibilities. Before we encourage our students to embrace this mindset, we strive to model it ourselves.
At the heart of these trainings are what we call our Five Non-Negotiables—the commitments that guide our decisions, relationships, and daily practices across the school.
1. Creating a Positive Learning Environment
Before children can learn, they must feel safe.
One of the most important conversations during our training focuses on building classrooms where students feel seen, supported, respected, and valued. Our teachers make sure to explore ways to use positive reinforcement instead of public shaming to implement the rule of flipping the language. Teachers also establish consistent routines and maintain high expectations while encouraging children every step of the way.
We believe that joy, belonging, and emotional safety are not extras in education; they are essential foundations for learning.
2. Making Inclusion a Daily Practice
At CGIA, inclusion is more than a philosophy; it is something we actively work towards every day. Our teachers work together to ensure that every child feels like a valued and integral part of the school community. Our training reinforces the importance of collaboration and shared responsibility across classrooms and teams. At the end of the training, teachers are invited to reflect on a simple but powerful question:
What will the students and staff consistently experience because of the way I show up each day?
